Going To College- What You Need To Know!

The spring session is coming up, starting in the winter for many colleges. Even though every school is different, you will more then likely have to do several things to rep yourself started, wherever you are in the USA.

File Your FAFSA.
The FAFSA is your golden price to college in most cases. It's a free, on-line or paper (your choice) application that is your one discontinuance application to most government financial aids that are available to you. You can obtain out more information at www.fafsa.gov.

Apply To Your College(s) of Choice
This, again, can be done on-line from the comfort of your own home in most cases, or at the school itself on paper. Most schools capture or only allow you to apply online. Most community colleges derive just about everyone while state or private university's often have a wearisome application process and tend to be selective. Your best bet is to apply everywhere you think you may want to go and hope for the best. Be sure to include all schools you may attend to on your FAFSA!

Take a Campus Tour, or Attend a Orientation/Counselor Meeting
Some school asks you do all three of the above, and some don't require it at all. Check your school's regulations and admissions process. It's smart to walk around the school anyways just to bag a feel of were classrooms, bathrooms, and were you can/can't park.

Talk to a Financial Aid Counselor
Even if you have a million dollars to utilize, or you don't feel you will qualify, try to take advantage of financial aid! It's money just laying around waiting to pay for college. Your schools Financial Aid Counselor will be able to tell you what you can get, and how.

Pick Your Classes
Some schools will require you to take a Assessment Test, or Ability To Benefit Test to state you in basic math and reading classes before you can attend other college courses or programs. Make sure you have ample time to get to and from your classes and you don't schedule two classes at once!

Buy Your Books and Supplies
Some special programs, like Certified Nursing Assisting require you to buy all your equipment (scrubs, stethoscope, etc) and books prior to your first day. Some medical courses require a physical, CPR certification, vaccinations, or background checks. This is the same for some law enforcement courses as well. On the other hand, your basic math and reading classes might let you tear with borrowed or e-books until you get your grant disbursement. Be sure to carefully check over what books you will need for school, and any other supplies such as a special calculator or computer.

Show Up for Your First Day!
This is by far the most important day of school. Most instructors hand out their syllabus today, as well as drop no reveal students! Unless you have a life or death emergency, be clear to show up for your first day. Even so you should call your instructor to make sure they know you do intend to attend their class and your not skipping school for no reason!

College is a substantial step, and by using the tips and tricks above you can navigate this scary world easily. Your intended school's website can be a wealth of information so be sure to take a peak at that as well!
